L'Orient Le Jour
An exhibition in Beirut, Lebanon for the artist Jean Boghossian. Further reflecting on his concept of playing with fire, but with a twist!

"Building With Fire" was an exhibition by Jean Boghossian in Beirut, running until October 28, 2018. The artist, who had last exhibited in Beirut three years earlier, returned to showcase his compelling creations. This time, the exhibition took place in the old building of L'Orient Le Jour, where the traces of the civil war merged with Boghossian's fire-drawn artworks, creating a unique experience. The exhibition was presented from September 18 to October 28, 2018, and was organized by the Association of Lebanese Cultural Festivals in collaboration with Tanit Gallery, founded by Mrs. Naila Kettaneh-Kunigk. It was curated by Bruno Corà, director of the Burri Foundation in Città di Castello, Italy.
The exhibition displayed artworks created using fire, a rare technique in contemporary art. It was held in the former L'Orient-Le Jour building and in the crypt of Saint-Joseph University, where a selection of his Burned Books, accompanied by a work titled "Pigments," was inaugurated during a VIP dinner. The theme of "constructive fire" was central to the exhibition. Boghossian's work, made with fire and pigment, explored order, geometry, rhythm, composition, and balance, all of which symbolized the need for cultural and civil reconstruction.
